of 25.06.1985

ISSUE ON THE AGENDA: defending by V.M. BAKHIR of the Ph.D. thesis: “Regulation of physicochemical properties of process water solutions by unipolar electrochemical action and its practical application experience”.

RESOLVED: To adopt the conclusion of the Special Board in accordance with §67 of the Rules in the following wording:

The Special Board considers that the thesis is part of the research on the subject: “Electrochemical activation of process solutions” carried out by the chair of physical chemistry of the Kazan Chemical Technological Institute (KHTI) named after S.M. Kirov, State Registration Number 0183, 0079850.

The thesis if a complete scientific research dedicated to the development of a new trend in the electrochemical technology, namely, electrochemical activation of process water solutions.

The above research is very topical, as it makes it possible to regulate physicochemical properties and reactive capacity of water solutions with the aim of upgrading the efficiency of many processes (water treatment, drilling, electroplating etc.).

The basic results and scientific novelty of the thesis are as follows:

  1. establishment of the existence of non-equilibrium (metastable) state of aqueous saline solutions after their unipolar electrochemical treatment at inert electrodes;
  2. establishment of conditions and factors that facilitate electrochemical activation of solutions used in a number of processes;
  3. development of process technology using electrochemical activation of solutions;
  4. development and application in a number of production processes of electroactivator designs enabling to modify solution activation conditions and ensuring their efficient use (output rate, cost effectiveness).

Reliability of the results and validity of the conclusions are ensured by the use of conventional methods of studying electrochemical processes (coulometry, potentiometric measurements, conductometry, rheology) and reproducibility of the main regularities of the change of relaxation technological characteristics of the processes in activated solutions.

The scientific and practical significance of the work consists in that it has solved a new scientific and technical task in the area of electrochemistry: a new trend in the development of electrochemical technology has been developed that consists in the regulation by unipolar electrochemical action of physicochemical properties of water solutions before their use in technological processes.

Application in various regions of the country of pilot plants for electrical treatment of drill muds and mineralized waters developed under the scientific guidance of the author made it possible to considerably improve performance indicators of drilling operations. The economic benefit in 1979-1983 was over 1 million rubles.

Issues related to the mechanism of the solution transformation into a thermodynamically non-equilibrium state by unipolar electrochemical action as well as to the chemical aspect of reactions involving electrochemically activated solutions require further more profound theoretical and experimental investigation.

The results of the work can be used for further research and practical application by the following organizations and enterprises:

KHTI named after S.M. Kirov, NPO “Vostok” (Tashkent), PO “Foton” (Tashkent), NPO “Energiya” (Kaliningrad, Moscow region), PO “Kristall” (Kiev), PO “Plastic” (Syzran), “Schetmash” Works (Kursk).
